Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some answers to the questions I am most often asked. If you don't see what you're looking for, please get in touch – I'm happy to help.

Are you a member of a professional body?

Yes – I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which only accepts qualified Counsellors. I follow their ethical framework and maintain professional standards to ensure a safe, respectful counselling space. I'm also committed to ongoing professional development so I can support you well.

Do you offer an initial consultation?

Yes – I offer an initial free 30-minute consultation so we can meet, talk about what you're hoping for, and decide whether we'd like to work together. There's no obligation to continue.

How often are sessions and how long do they last?

Sessions usually last for 1 hour and are typically held once a week. If weekly sessions don't fit your life right now, we can agree a different rhythm that suits you.

Is Counselling confidential?

Yes. What you share in sessions is confidential. The only exceptions are rare and serious – for instance, if there is a risk of significant harm to you or someone else or a legal requirement to disclose. I would always try to discuss this with you first.

How much do sessions cost?

My fee is £45 per session. I also offer reduced-rate appointments for students.

How do I pay?

Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash. I usually ask for payment 24 hrs. before each session – please let me know if you need a different arrangement.

What can I expect from Counselling?

Counselling offers a calm, confidential space where you can explore what's on your mind without judgment. My role is to listen, reflect back, and support you to find clarity, resilience and choices that feel right for you.

I'm not sure Counselling is right for me – what should I do?

It's okay to feel uncertain. You don't need to have all the answers before starting. If it feels helpful we can try a few sessions and review how it's going – and if another form of support would suit you better, I can signpost options.
